Cardinal’s expertise, innovation and intent focus on customer satisfaction set the company apart from other third-party logistics providers in the dedicated segment.
In 1997, Vin McLoughlin and Tom Hostetler recognized the need for a third-party logistics company focused on dedicated contract carriage. With the goal of providing customers the best resources and flexibility to efficiently manage their supply chains, they assembled a team of logistics experts and formed Cardinal Logistics Management as a privately-held corporation in July 1997.
Cardinal’s expertise, innovation and intent focus on customer satisfaction set the company apart from other third-party logistics providers in the dedicated segment. Cardinal quickly experienced significant growth as its service offerings and customer base expanded to include construction and building materials, retail, JIT manufacturing support, recycling, food and beverage, bulk transport, and now offering dedicated technology solutions as Software as a Service (SaaS).
Cardinal Freight Carriers, Inc. was formed in 1980 in Concord, North Carolina. An irregular route truckload carrier, the company began with a fleet of only 14 tractors. In 1997, Cardinal Logistics Management, Inc., in order to provide a platform upon which to develop the dedicated activity, purchased Cardinal Freight Carriers from Arkansas Best Corp. In 2012, Cardinal was acquired by Centerbridge Partners.
The original Greatwide business began in 1967 as RTI and soon shifted its focus to dedicated contract carriage. From 2000 to 2008, the company acquired a number of significant players in the industry. In 2006, the Greatwide brand was launched, encompassing all of its then existing brands and services. The company announced a financial restructuring in 2008, and the business was purchased by an investor group, including Centerbridge Partners, in February 2009.
Cardinal and Greatwide integrated their dedicated business in 2013, creating one of the largest, most diverse dedicated fleet operations in the country.
