CONCORD, N.C. (November 18, 2004) – Last month at Cardinal Logistics Managment (Cardinal) Annual Sales Conference held in Vail, CO, an unusual but very special charity tournament was held to benefit the Georgia chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. More than $3,600 was raised during a first-annual charity “poker” tournament that offered a chance for Cardinal sales and operations managers and directors from across the country to “chip” in for an important and worthy cause.
“Each Fall, our sales and operations teams assemble for a chance to highlight our accomplishments for the past year and set a course for the year to come,” explained Jerry Bowman, Cardinal’s President and COO. “This year we had a wonderful opportunity to give back to our community and Cardinal employees by hosting a charity ‘poker’ tournament that benefited a remarkable organization like the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.”
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic disease that affects approximately 30,000 children and adults in the United States. The mission of the CF Foundation is to assure the development of the means to cure and control CF and improve the quality of life for those with the disease. The CF Foundation funds medical research and care programs which are improving the length and quality of life for people with CF.
Bud Workmon, SVP of Cardinal Delivery, Inc. a division of Cardinal Logistics Management, suggested the CF Foundation as the benefit organization for the first-annual tournament. “The Georgia chapter and national office of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation offer meaningful programs for individuals and their families who must live with CF as a daily part of their lives,” said Workmon. “It’s an honor that our organization made a positive step toward funding research that one day may find a cure for this frightening disease.”
