Cardinal Logistics Announces Ten New Inductees into Cardinal ‘Circle of Champions’ Recognition program

CONCORD, N.C. (October 1, 2004) --- Officials with Cardinal Logistics Managment – a privately-held provider of transportation and third-party logistics services – today announced that ten additional employees have been inducted into the Cardinal “Circle of Champions,” a premier employee recognition program. Winners were announced Saturday, September 25, 2004 at the Cardinal Logistics National Sales Meeting in Vail, CO.

Recently rolled out companywide, the Cardinal ‘Circle of Champions’ recognition program honors employees who consistently go above and beyond the call of duty for internal and external customers, according to Cardinal Logistics Managment Chairman, Vin McLoughlin. Cardinal employees inducted into the program include operations managers: Troy Collins based in Franconia, VA; Al Delara based in Thornton, CO; Eric Dilley based in Liberty Township, OH; Kevin Parnell based in Buford, GA; Lee Perry based in Ft. Worth, TX; and Jake Szymkowicz based in Orlando, FL. Cardinal Region Managers inducted into the program included: Jim Carver in Cincinnati, OH; John Earwood in Marietta, GA; Phil Pastis in Peoria, AZ; and Chip Robinson in Davidson, NC. Previous inductees to the program are JR Baxter of Concord, N.C. and Jane Joyner of Kannapolis, NC.

“We are thrilled to induct these ten customer-focused managers into the Circle of Champions. This is an elite, exclusive group here at Cardinal who consistently handle the hardest of challenges for our customers,” said Chairman Vin McLouglin. “They are ordinary people who have done extraordinary things.”

Troy Collins – a resident of Franconia, VA - left the Office Depot account in Dallas, TX earlier this year to run the 7-Eleven operation based in Franconia, VA. This account operates 365 days a year with both warehouse and transportation services. “ Troy came in and turned this account around into a profitable, dynamic operation, said Dave Wilkinson. “He’s regained the confidence of the customer and delivered the excellent service our customers expect. His employees are re-energized and re-focused on delivering a great product for one of our most valued customers,” Wilkinson said.

Al Delara began his career at Cardinal in March 2004. With no deep knowledge of Cardinal systems or processes, Al mastered both in time to start two remote KraftMaid account teams by mid-May 2004, and opened the Denver, CO KraftMaid cross-dock by June 2004. “Even though this was one of seven that was not originally intended as a KraftMaid cross-dock, the Denver facility moved more cabinets per man hour during three of the first four weeks of operation than any single KraftMaid cross-dock in the system,” said Roy Szymkowicz, KraftMaid General Manager. Eric Dilley manages the KraftMaid operation in Dayton, OH with the best margin numbers year-to-date, best undelivered numbers year-to-date, and remains among the best in safety numbers, according to Szymkowicz. Eric also went out of his way in help with TMW training in Jacksonville, FL during the KraftMaid start-ups.

Kevin Parnell currently runs the largest and most complex Dedicated Contract Carriage operation in the Southeast region. “He takes care of one of Cardinal’s largest and most important customers, Office Depot, with style and his relationship with the customer is the main reason Cardinal has seen a 35 percent growth at that location over the past two years,” said Mike Wells, Region Vice President. Wells states that Kevin is passionate about his job, his drivers, and his customer- and it shows.

Since his arrival at the Office Depot Arlington, TX operation in June 2004, Lee Perry has added over $2 million dollars of dedicated revenue, won the customer’s respect and implemented new ideas that are sure to result in the operation running more efficiently. “ Lee is a hard charger who believes in the "get it done" management style,” said Zeyad Kudsi, Cardinal’s Senior Vice President. “He has earned respect from all those who work with him and he continues to make our customer happy, while working for the best performance in key areas such as safety, recruiting, growth and margin results.”

Jacob Szymkowicz manages the Office Depot operation in Orlando, FL. His dedication was shown in his response in the aftermath of Hurricane Charley that swept through the Orlando area in August. He camped out at Office Depot the entire weekend following the disaster, rounding up any available resources to get more than 30 loads delivered that were scheduled for that day. He pulled it off with no land lines or power, and only sparse cell coverage, according to his supervisors.

Jim Carver recently made a transition to the Mill’s Pride operations from another Cardinal account. “Jim demonstrated outstanding performance in managing the Waverly, OH - Mill’s Pride transportation start-up,” said Tim Johnson, a Cardinal Regional Vice President. “Carver went above and beyond in support of the other functional areas of the Mill’s Pride and Cardinal team as well.”

Managing the Southeast Region for the Delivery Division since 1999, John Earwood has produced the most profit of any Cardinal Delivery region each year. Since 2000, his profit margin is at 12.5%, and his region runs approximately $26 million per year in gross revenue. “John has definitely built a solid team that continually strives to be the best region possible,” states Brian Farris, VP of Delivery.

Phil Pastis has thrilled Wal-Mart, Anderson Windows, and a number of other key accounts, according to Diane Caldemeyer, Cardinal Senior Vice President for the West Coast. “He has maintained everything on track so we could concentrate on contract resigns, union runs, and planning startups, all while living in a hotel room” Caldemeyer said.

Chip Robinson manages the Northeast Region for the Dedicated Division. “Not only is he one of the best operators in the entire business, but he has morals and a work ethic that are hard to find in this industry,” said Dave Wilkinson. “He always has Cardinal’s best interests in mind and unselfishly goes the extra distance whether he is asked to or not.”

“The fact that these employees represent the inaugural dozen entrants to this group only makes this award more noteworthy and deserving as they have set the bar high for future candidates,” said McLoughlin. “We could not be more proud of their talents but even more so for their passion in thrilling our valued customers. Cardinal is not about our trucks, it is about folks like these.”
